Eid ul Adha 2025: The Inspiring Story of True Sacrifice

Hazrat Ibrahim A.S walking with his son Ismail A.S before Eid ul Adha – faith and sacrifice

Eid ul Adha 2025, also known as Eid ul Azha, is one of the most important Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide. Known as the Festival of Sacrifice, it reminds us of the timeless story of Hazrat Ibrahim A.S – a story that teaches us true faith, obedience, and devotion to Allah.

The Story of Hazrat Ibrahim A.S – A Lesson of Faith

The story behind Eid ul Adha is deeply emotional and powerful. It’s about a father, Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S), who was tested with the hardest trial – sacrificing his beloved son, Hazrat Ismail (A.S).

The Dream and Command from Allah

One night, Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) saw in a dream that Allah was commanding him to sacrifice his son. At first, he thought it was just a dream. But when the same dream came again and again, he realised it was truly a command from his Lord.

Imagine the pain in his heart. Hazrat Ismail (A.S) was a young boy, dearly loved by his father. Yet, Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) was ready to obey Allah, no matter how difficult it was. His love for Allah was greater than everything else.

Personal Reflection

When I read this story, believe me, my heart felt something I can’t even describe. I thought, how can a father even think of sacrificing his own son? But then I reminded myself – he wasn’t just any ordinary man. He was Khalilullah – the friend of Allah, Hazrat Ibrahim A.S.

This Eid ul Adha, let’s remember:
It’s not just about sacrificing an animal. It’s about keeping this pain and realisation alive in our hearts. We must also sacrifice our ego, our pride, and our selfish desires for the sake of Allah.

The Conversation with His Son

Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) gently told his son:

“O my son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice you. So what do you think?”
(Surah As-Saffat 37:102)

His son, Hazrat Ismail (A.S), replied with beautiful submission:

“O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, InshaAllah, among the patient.”

This shows their deep faith and trust in Allah. Both father and son were ready to do what Allah commanded – without fear or hesitation.

The Moment of Sacrifice

When they reached the place of sacrifice, Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) laid down his son and covered his eyes, so he wouldn’t see him suffer. As he moved the knife, Allah’s miracle happened.

A ram was sent down from the heavens, and Allah replaced Hazrat Ismail (A.S) with this ram, accepting Hazrat Ibrahim’s pure intention.

“We called out to him, ‘O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the vision.’ Indeed, this was a clear trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.”
(Surah As-Saffat 37:104–107)

Why Do Muslims Celebrate Eid ul Adha?

Many people wonder why Muslims sacrifice animals on Eid ul Adha. The answer is spiritual:

  • To honour the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S)
  • To show obedience and submission to Allah
  • To share blessings with the poor, relatives, and neighbours
  • To remember that true love is for Allah alone

Why Is Sacrifice Important?

Sacrifice is not just about slaughtering an animal. It is about letting go of our pride, ego, and desires for the sake of Allah. When we sacrifice an animal on Eid, it reminds us to sacrifice our bad habits, anger, greed, and selfishness.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim…”
(Sunan Ibn Majah 3122)

Life Lessons from Eid ul Adha

Eid ul Adha teaches us:

  • Always obey Allah, no matter how hard it seems
  • Sacrifice your ego and desires for His sake
  • Help the poor and needy around you
  • Be grateful for all the blessings He has given

When is Eid ul Adha 2025?

In 2025, Eid ul Adha will be observed around Sunday, 7th June 2025 (depending on moon sighting). It falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, the last Islamic month during the days of Hajj.

The Connection Between Hajj and Eid ul Adha

Eid ul Adha also marks the completion of Hajj, where millions of Muslims gather in Makkah to perform the rites established by Prophet Ibrahim (A.S). Just like pilgrims leave everything behind for Allah, we too must reflect on our sacrifices and submission.

Conclusion: Celebrating Faith and Sacrifice

Eid ul Adha is not just a festival. It is a reminder of Hazrat Ibrahim’s test, Hazrat Ismail’s patience, and Allah’s mercy. As we celebrate Eid ul Adha 2025, let’s renew our intentions and remember:

  • True success lies in obedience to Allah
  • Real sacrifice is giving up what He dislikes
  • Share your blessings with others

This Eid, don’t just sacrifice an animal. Sacrifice your pride, anger, and selfish desires for the sake of Allah. That is the true meaning of Eid ul Adha.
