What is Qayamah?

Early (Minor) Signs of Qayamah

Some Minor Signs Include:
- People will lie without shame, and dishonesty will spread everywhere.
- Trustworthiness will disappear; promises will be broken easily.
- Children will become disobedient towards their parents.
- Wealth and love for money will increase, but blessings will decrease.
- Time will pass so quickly that a year will feel like a month, and a month like a week.
- People will compete with each other in building tall skyscrapers.
- Shamelessness and immorality will become common and even celebrated.
- Sudden deaths will increase, leaving people shocked.
- True knowledge of Deen will decrease, and ignorance will prevail.
- Many will abandon the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, chasing worldly desires instead.
Major Signs of Qayamah
When the major signs appear, they will shake the entire earth and humanity. These events are miraculous, terrifying, and undeniable – leaving no doubt that the Day of Judgment is near.
Dajjal – The False Messiah

Return of Isa (Jesus) عليه السلام
Isa (AS) will descend from the heavens to defeat Dajjal. He will restore justice, break the cross, kill the swine, and lead believers in truth and peace. This beautiful event is among the final major signs.
Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog)
These are wild, destructive tribes locked away by Dhul-Qarnayn. Near the end of times, they will be released, spreading corruption and chaos across the earth. Their emergence is a terrifying sign mentioned clearly in the Qur’an and Hadith.
The Smoke
A thick smoke will cover the entire world, causing immense suffering and fear. This smoke is a punishment for persistent disbelief and a clear sign that Qayamah is approaching.
The Beast (Dabbatul Ardh)
A strange beast will emerge from the earth, marking people to show who is a believer and who is a disbeliever. This sign will differentiate between hearts that believed and those that rejected the truth.
The Sun Rising from the West
One of the most frightening signs is when the sun will rise from the west instead of the east. On that day, the door of repentance will close forever. May Allah protect us from witnessing this irreversible sign.
Three Major Earthquakes
There will be three massive earthquakes – one in the east, one in the west, and one in the Arabian Peninsula. They will cause unimaginable destruction and fear among people.
Fire Driving People to Gather
Finally, a huge fire will rise from Yemen, driving people to the place where they will be resurrected. No one will be able to escape it.
Signs of Qayamah That Have Already Happened
- Spread of knowledge and advanced technology worldwide.
- Widespread immorality and shamelessness.
- People competing in building tall towers, like Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
- Deaths of many righteous scholars, leaving a void of true guidance.
- Widespread use of interest (riba) despite its clear prohibition in Islam.
- People abandoning Salah and the Qur’an for worldly pleasures.

As I read and write about these signs, my heart feels heavy. Sometimes, I wonder – am I truly prepared for this day? Are we living our lives as if we believe in the reality of Qayamah?
